Substance abuse is the overindulgence in and dependence on a drug or other chemical leading to effects that are detrimental to the individual's physical, mental, or emotional health, or the welfare of others. While stereotypes of substance abuse are common in culture through media and colloquialism, the symptoms, causes, impact, and methods of relief are very complex and highly individualized.

Whether for yourself or for a loved one, be it voluntary or court-mandated, consider exploring some methods that may be new to you for coping with substance abuse as well as the triggers and root causes that can make this such a difficult pattern to break out of. The experience I have in working with alcohol abuse and drug addiction, combined with the strengths that you bring to the table and the support of those who care can really make a difference.
